G.R.A.M. works strategically using consciously selected extracts from the flood of media images and plays a subversive game with our perception of such concepts as fame, heroism, bathos, triumph, tragedy, ridiculousness. As in real life, the perception of reality often becomes a new subjective reality.
Staged images or press photos of politicians, regardless of origin, provide a particularly apt source of argumentation. G.R.A.M. re-stages these images and in doing so creates a “re-entry” into the public view via the system of art.In the end, political promises are closely tied to the perception of reality.
G.R.A.M., which was founded in Graz in 1987 by Günther Holler-Schuster, Ronald Walter, Armin Ranner, Martin Behr, as a four-man collective now consists of just two of these members: Martin Behr and Günther Holler-Schuster.
